I’m taking a slight detour from my Melrose shop review to talk about one of my own projects….
The Alice Project.
It’s an image that launched a project that’s becoming very fun for me. It all began with an image that during my editing I couldn’t help but noticed it cried out ‘Alice!’…..’Alice!’….and said OMG I think I’m going to call this one ‘Alice’ because it had Alice In Wonderland oozing out of it….and so I thought I’d do a small-ish project about Alice In Wonderland, but featuring my own designs. There would be an Alice and a Hatter. The ‘Classy Cate’ hat (white hat) is by All That Jazz Design. Bracelet by NewspaperJewelry.com.
…..And then there was going to be mentions of the other characters in interesting ways…..but then that evolved into something more…..
and soon there was a Red Queen because I couldn’t find anything to represent her…..and then I decided why not….let’s see if I can get someone to be The White Queen….and so there I was with Alice, Hatter, and the Queens. Then I decided to add the Tweedles and end it there….and so my journey has begun and the project now named ‘The Alice Project’, was underway.
So this post will chronicle my first shoot on The Alice Project Path with none other than Alice. In the end I my friend Nia Celine took up the mantle of Alice for the actual shoots and even though she is now Alice for The Alice Project, Brittany will always be the First Alice. She may still figure into the final project because her images are simply too stunning to not be seen. Check a couple of Brittany as Alice pics out (more to come in future posts).
I imagined that Alice or Brittany in this shot could be a Faery Godmother initially or even as her own Magical self a sort of Hermoine in charge of some strong magic bestowed upon her during her travels in Wonderland. The pink rose hat was purchased at Ginger Root Designs in Washington D.C. The pinwheel was a commission I obtained by SpicyMandaRoll on Etsy. I designed the gown and did the fashion styling.
I also started to see other images as possibly falling into the Alice Project even though they were originally done for other reason and this is another shot that began to take on the Alice vibe. Perhaps Alice was a runaway and spent some time in the circus. I know that the way my Alice journey is evolving there is definitely a strong circus theme and I believe in the final outputs from the project I will see that Alice spent some time away with the circus perhaps meeting people she never thought to meet. We’ll see how it turns out.
But I want to end this post with a few images of Nia Celine as Alice who turned out to be great showing another Alice for me which is exactly what gave me the idea that perhaps there’s more to Alice than meets the eye. Maybe all girls have an Alice within and perhaps guys do too. After all, anyone in a strange place is still someone out of sorts and trying to find their way through whether you call them Dorothy, Doctor Who, or Shrek. I know that I’ve been more than my fair share of Alice.
So more to come in the future on these pictures. I hope you like them. I’m in total love with them as well as my own designs, but this is exactly what I hope to do for a living…write, create characters, design fashions for them, get models/take the pics and then put them together to create amazing things that can be shared with the world.
….until next time. Travel Spritely.
