What makes you go ‘sigh’? What loves do you have that bring you to the point of blissful revelry? Is it dancing? or Art? or just a great sandwich? I’ve found my love…over and over again in fashion photography and it’s been an amazing way to discover my own passion…my own vision…my own inner great Love…myself. So this blog is not about ‘for the Love of God….blah’…it’s about ‘for the Love of …soul….joy…passion…etc.’ I will be simply sharing some of my most amazing pictures that have taken me to a deep state of happiness:
This is from one of my earliest shoots. I haven’t had a chance to use these pics much due to being in school, busy with homework, life, etc and unfortunately they’re not really posted on any of my other portfolio sites due to some restrictions but I thought it’d be great to usher them out on my blog…especially since it’s relatively new and I had much love for the taking of the images. They were beyond dreamy….beyond amazing….I loved them. So here are just two of my favorites and hopefully I’ll roll out more in the future:
This picture features the amazing and stunning Annika Smith who modeled for me, BUT it also features my denim hat that I inherited from my Auntie. She made it from recycled blue jeans and whenever I wear it….I always get compliments. It’s a throwback for sure transporting folks to the cool days of the 70’s.
Another pic from Annika’s set (above) is one that I love for the depth and mystery of the image. It’s untitled, but perhaps one day I’ll see something that’ll make me title it. It may be fine just the way it is. I styled Annika and the jewelry she’s wearing is created by one of my best friends, Holly Anne Mitchell who runs NewspaperJewelry.com. I did a shoot for her that I’ll likely talk about in another post in the future. Her work is amazing and uses recycled newspaper and other things such as wrappers to make bracelets, necklaces, ties, cufflinks, etc.
The Baroque themed shoot held at FIDM was awesome and gave me amazing shots which I love….love….love…the next couple of images feature models Hannah Nunez and Jorden Karsten. The team, including the models, was made up of other FIDM students: Photographer: Me, Stylists: Austin Wittick, Taylor Love, Ashley Wong, and Hair/Make-up: Gabbiy Ramirez.
The Baroque shoot was totally circus chic and it gave me a lot of inspiration for techniques I use in my present photography that I didn’t use in my earlier shoots. I left with too many pics from this shoot and it’s always a tough time trying to find ways to get them exposure. Many of them are just too awesome to not be seen.
Introducing……model Lily Markosian who was actually in the first ‘shoot’ I ever did and so there’s special love for this shoot and the pics. The pics are beyond amazing and gorgeous. They were for my Newspaper Jewelry shoot which was done in 2-parts with Annika Smith also modeling some of the jewelry at a separate shoot. ‘For the love of’ came in this shoot for the fun and joy. It’s what these pics were all about….play…and collaboration…
I loved this shoot for the cool spot we took the pics and also for the fun of working around corners and just doing whatever came up. Lily and I discussed different things and came up with what she loves to call ‘the ghostie’ pics, but I think they’re a bit Faery and ghostie too…
It was a bit frustrating in that I wasn’t able to funnel these pics into publications as I had hoped and I have others that are just as interesting. I hope to go back to do more ghostie/Faery pics to take the theme further, but we’ll see what happens.
This next picture is one that I loved for the vibrancy and is when I started to get into Instagram. The pics are of model Emily Palos. She totally rocked the images and it was taken during a FIDM weekend workshop on photography. However Instagram is not very friendly to uploading pics that aren’t taken via your phone and so I don’t use Instagram as much (at least until I can find an easier way to get my pics up). Boo! But Instagram is awesome for sharing….which has brought me into using my phone camera more. This gorgeous pic was taken using my Nikon.
My ‘for the love of’ post is beginning to wane….which is simply means that I think this post is getting too long (lol)…and I have tons of other images I want to share…but I think I’ll end on a strong note bringing in this picture showing model Brittany Meeker posing with an amazing hat designed by Sallye of AllThatJazzDesign (Etsy shop). The bracelet is by Newspaper Jewelry and the gown is my own design. Check out my Fashion Design page for more information on my designs. I’m updating to show this gown in its full glory and plan to blog about the journey of the design. This shoot was/is part of my shoot to feature my gown inspired by punk rock & women’s suffrage movement.
In closing this post was really about love and sharing a bit of my love giving just a peek into my love of fashion, fashion photography, styling and design. I also wanted to blow the dust off of some of my pics and get them some air time on my blog. Others I have submitted to different publications and I’m waiting to hear back, BUT it’s great to share some of them first here on my own site. I’ll leave you with a slideshow of love (simply because I can’t stop showing my photography…I love the pics and what I learned from taking them)….so you can see some of my other pics that will likely get their own air time on other posts….I hope you love them and find them interesting. And think about….’for the love’….of what? in your own world and where you find the love in your own life. It’s these things that grow you…and grow you…taking you into more beautiful expressions that reveal you….
….until next time. Travel Spritely.
