Squam in the City! The Art Retreat in Providence

So I signed up for an art retreat….a bit late, but I lucked out and was able to get a slot.  I was looking forward to going and it was also a chance to see a good friend I hadn’t seen in yonks.  The thing was me going was a surprise and my surprise worked out.  She totally didn’t expect it.  She was the one who told me about the retreat and it was so cool to sort of ‘play it off’ and let her think I couldn’t make it.  It paid off in the end.  We were totally crying and laughing and hugging!

Squam in the City is an amazing experience.  I’ve had the opportunity to take a couple of art courses focusing on photography while at the retreat, but I’ve also had the chance of meeting amazing women who I’m hoping to remain in contact with after the retreat ends.

I’m literally writing while still away on retreat wanting to upload some of the latest information or output from the class and so I’m settling on posted some of the pics from my first class on Photography and Color taught by the brilliant Xanthe Berkeley.

I learned how to look at colors in a new way that made me notice how colors look when adjacent to each other or used in various combinations.  It was almost too cool.

Here are some of the highlight images:

When I think about my photography during the class and after the class I can already see a difference in how I approach an environment.  I looked at things differently when it came to color even when I was out during a different photography class the following day (which I will cover later).  It’s so important to try and stretch yourself and see how you can grow as a photographer.  I was also able to use some techniques I learned from other workshops during these classes and it was great.  The pictures I obtained were different from others I’ve taken and were very interesting to see at the end of the day.

Here are some final pics featuring some of my favorite sights many are unedited and so these colors are simply as they were when we came across them.  Others were edited but only slightly but were done so to bring out the colors only.  I hope to talk about my other class in an upcoming post…..and I’m totally behind on some of my amazing interviews!  So these will hopefully be coming out soon and catching me up.  Enjoy these last pics and in the meantime…until next time….Travel Spritely.

    1. Thanks it’s been a blast! Can’t wait to share more of what I saw and learned…..more to come on Squam & soon… 🙂

  1. I know that Envy is one of the seven deadly sins but, really, I think I should be forgiven for envying how crisp and “pop out” the colors in your photos here are. Way to GO! So glad that you shared about Squam in the City. Looks like an event I’d be interested in attending in the future. 🙂

    1. Thanks so much for the love! lol….I had so much fun taking these photographs…it was very different from what I might usually shoot though I do often take pictures of nature and objects. The process was simply a different approach. I’ve learned so much from it and it’s already taking my photography into new directions. 🙂

  2. SO good. I’m thrilled you enjoyed it and took something away. I hope you’re now open to spotting all the colour that surrounds you xxx
