The Melbourne Fashion Festival is on this entire week and the runways are fabulous featuring some of the most interesting Australian labels/designers. I have been very interested in learning more about Australian designers and brands which is one of the reasons (the main one) for why I’m here. Attending the festival has been very fun and has allowed me to see great fashion.
Going took me back to a time when I had the chance to be the Fashion Coordinator for a fashion show in college that was annual and pretty big for the campus. I wondered how fast were the models changing, why some had a sort of ‘no expression’ rather than some expression…was it in style for models now?, why they turned so fast at the end of the runway…..I thought it would’ve been great to see them stay a bit more so to see the entire look. I couldn’t help but look at the cadence of the models as they ‘stomped’ the runway to the musical stylings of house music. It was all very well organized and put together and I loved the ambience of it. I felt my heart open and think of my mom (who also studied design) and smile.
So what called to me the most? Was it the looks? Was it the designers? Was it the entire show? I loved the entire show. I wasn’t in love with every look I must admit and there were some I felt might’ve looked better on older models just because the styling suggested someone in their 30’s or even 40’s would look amazing in it and I think it’s a shame that there isn’t more of a mixture of ages in models who do runway shows such as these. I felt this was more true of last night’s show rather than the Opening Night’s show.
Now for the highlights! Enjoy…until next time Travel Spritely.
….and then there was post-show….
